Keeper of the Heartbeat

American industry survives because some people still believe in building things the hard way and building them close to home. Josh York founded Soft Goods in Detroit with a belief that American manufacturing still matters. What started with a few sewing machines and relentless determination became a growing garment factory producing premium apparel while creating jobs and rebuilding pride in local craftsmanship. His story represents a new generation of makers choosing
to invest in people, process, and the city they
call home.

The Core Story Arc

The Challenge: American manufacturing is disappearing, and building a factory in Detroit without outside funding meant betting everything on skill, grit, and belief in the
city itself.

The Process: From teaching himself production
techniques to building a team piece by piece, Josh combines old-school hustle with modern manufacturing
to make premium garments entirely in Detroit.

The Payoff: What started with a few sewing machines became a growing factory producing for respected
brands while creating opportunity for the next generation
of makers.
